The Ellen Garrison Scholarship

Ellen Garrison was an African American educator, abolitionist and early Civil Rights activist, whose legacy of activism has been compared to Rosa Parks. Born in Concord, Massachusetts in 1823, Ellen lived an inspired life of teaching and activism across the United States. To learn more about this remarkable woman, please visit The Robbins House.

The Ellen Garrison Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Concord’s first Black daughter and the town’s African American history by offering scholarships to three female METCO seniors at Concord-Carlisle High School planning to further their education after graduation. In tribute to Ellen Garrison, a great leader and educator, we hope to inspire our future female leaders of color educated in Concord.
